Jim Mahfood does for comic books what Herbie Hancock did for jazz-- he brings the funk. The funk is more than an expression of urban culture-- it's an attitude. You can't help but nod your head to the funk, groove to it, and embrace it. The funk is a paradoxical mix of cool and hot, smooth and gritty, a common language and yet very distinct.
