Often times, a "love story gone wrong" can connect us with our own feelings of isolation, rejection, and other unfortunate dispositions. We grow with a deeper understanding that consequences exist, our failings don't go unpunished, and sometimes the world is not kind. There's an ironic mix of the sweet with the sour.
"Just Smile and Nod" is a weekly column (posted every Monday) about the art of comics, about comics as literature. Currently, I've undertaken a lengthy series on genres, which should continue through the remainder of 2004.
